Items in a scrap book belonging to Margaret (Maggie) Pendroy Marlenee

Many Poems and items of wisdom on pages of book, but among them or a few of items of family interest: The articles are not dated.

Andrew Pendroy who resides in the northern part North Dakota was here the first of this week, accompanied by Adam Boots, of near New Albany, visiting the family of David Boots, Mr. And Mrs. David Wasson, Dr. and Mrs. L.N. Davis, and other friends. Mr. Pendroy resided at Albany (In.) in his childhood and young manhood, but left here about 50 years ago to settle in Iowa and and afterward in North Dakota. Where he has resided for 16 years. (Author Note: That means this was likely published about 1899). His father was one of the first settlers of Albany. . He expressed himself well pleased with the appearance of farmland, the site of which is located being a wilderness inhabited by wild animals when he left Indiana. He left his home on the 12 of this month and arrived at Albany last week. He expects to remain about three weeks. He owns a large ranch and is engaged in the cattle business in his state.

An article (believed by author to be from a Monroe, Iowa newspaper) on death of Lizzie Pendroy. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Pendroy will be pained to learn of the death on last Saturday the 13th, after but a few days illness, of their daughter Lizzie, aged 21 years of congestion of the lungs.

The funeral services were held at the house of the parents on Sunday afternoon, and Rev. A., H. Schafer, of Monroe preaching the sermon. A large concourse of friends were present, and with sad hearts accompanied and the remains to their last resting place. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all.

Author Note: (Elizabeth A. Pendroy (Lizzie) , Daughter of Jacob Andrew Pendroy) b 1858 in Marion Co. Iowa and died 09-13-1879 at age 21 in Jasper Co. Iowa. Buried in Silent City Cemetery.

Author note: Elizabeth was also the first name of another Elizabeth Pendroy who also unfortunately died at a young age. This Elizabeth (called Lizzy), was the daughter of James Martin (Jim) and Susie (Messinger) Pendroy. Elizabeth Pendroy born 02-27-1884 married Meigher, died 09-1905 at age 21, and is buried in North Dakota. This is discussed by James Martin Pendroy (Born 1862) in his biography. IE: "In Sept. 1905, my daughter Lizzy passed away and left two small children, one a baby a few days old. Lizzy was  buried in the family lot, (North Dakota) close to my father and mother. Mama and I took care of the baby Francis Meigher for three years".

Sept. 26,1886. Please hand this to your mother. Verses that I copied of Lizzie’s tombstone.  (Note: This was dated some seven years after the death of Lizzie Pendroy(born 1858) in 1879. (Author note: I believe this note was from William T. Young, son of John William and Nancy (Pendroy) Young).

A little while on earth she spent

Till God to her his Angel sent

And then in time she closed her eyes

To wake to glory in the skies.
