Some graves were removed to Reames-Norton Cemetery, though there is no evidence that that of Solomon was. Nevertheless, a grave stone with adjacent bronze plaques has been installed there by the DAR (about 4 rows from the western boundary and 10 plots in from the southern boundary). The plaque on the left bears his name and that on the right reads:

A memorial to Solomon Tharp, ancestor of many buried here, who was a Revolutionary War soldier, 1777-1778
Was at Valley Forge 1777-1778

As forces were reorganized, he subsequently served in Captain Johnathan Forman's Company, First Regiment; Captain Forman's Company in Lt. Col. Francis Berber's Light Infantry Battalion; and then Captain Alexander Mitchells Company in Col. Matthias Ogden's Light Infantry Regiment, all in the New Jersey Line.
TATE, Hannah: Solomon THARP was married to Hannah TATE on Jun 16 1774 in Kennett Monthly Meeting, Chester Co., Pennsylvania.4,5 (May have been July 16). Meeting record reads, "contrary to discipline, She was disowned by the Quaker church for marrying a Baptist." About 1780, they moved to the Shenandoah area, in Culpepper Co., Virginia near the Rapidan River. They were devoted Baptists and with other pioneers of similar religious backgrounds, emigrated through the Valley of Virginia into North Carolina. About 1799, they moved to Bedford County, Virginia and then moved to Champaign County Ohio, settling at Kings Creek in Wayne Township sometime before 1811 (Solomon was listed as one of 30 electors of the township on Oct. 8, 1811). The Tharps apparently obtained land by warranty or quit-claim deed from Virginia Revolutionary War soldiers who were granted tracts in Wayne County but never moved there. Hannah TATE was born on Mar 15 1753 in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware. She was excommunicated on Jul 14 1774 in Kennett Monthly Meeting, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. The meeting minute read: "Whereas, Hannah Tharp (formerly Tate) hath had a Right of Membership amongst us the People called Quakers but for want of a Strict attention to the Dictates of Truth in her Heart hath So far Erred as to have Carnal knowledge with him that is now her Husband before Marriage and Accomplished Said Marriage by a Magistrate. Therefore for Clearing the Society from the Reproach Such Conduct Occasions we Account the Said Hannah Tharp no member thereof Until by Repentance and Amendment of life She shalt Condemn her Said Outgoings which that she may Happily Experience is our Sincerest Desire. Given forth by our Monthly Meeting of Kennett held the 14th of the 7th Month 1774 and Signed by order of the Society.

Grubb is shown in the 1875 Marion County Atlas to own 40 acres in section 19 of Red Rock Township. This is presumably Martha since her daughter, Emily G., married John Marshall, presumably the son of George Marshall, in 1873. Both families were neighbors of the Joshua Parkers. III. THARP, Martha (Patsy): Martha (Patsy) THARP was born on May 1 1779. (The recording of Tharps Run grave stones indicates that Martha was 44 years at death, which would have made her birth two years earlier.) Dorothy Tharp gives birth date as Jan 1 1779. Dean lists birth place as Bedford County, Virginia; Coltrain as NJ. She died on Nov 13 1821 in Zanesfield, Jefferson Twp, Logan Co., Ohio. Descendants of Eliza Grubb White believe that Patsy died in the aftermath of Eliza's birth. The Tharp's Run Cemetery stone seems to indicate that Patsy was 44 at her death, which doesn't match our best estimates of her birth and death dates. She was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Logan Co., Ohio.30,20 She is buried in Row 4 (n to s)
GRUBB, Andrew: Martha (Patsy) THARP was married to Andrew GRUBB on Sep 17 1800 in Bedford Co., Virginia.31,32,33,34 Patsey's brother, Nathan Thorp provided surety as to her being of age. They were married by Alterson Weeks. Andrew and Patsy moved initially to Ohio in 1813 or 1814 with the Tharps. The Matthews history says they went initially to Clark County (which is just south of Champaign County. Other evidence has them in Champaign and then to Logan County. They are listed in the 1820 Logan County Census as a family of 11, with 2 girls and 2 boys aged 10-16 and 2 girls and 3 boys under ten. Andrew GRUBB was born about 1773.35 He died on Apr 4 1843 in Cass Co., Michigan. He was Baptist. Along with John Reed and others, she organized the first Baptist church in the Brownsville area. She was buried in Reames & Norton Cemetery, Cemetery St., Cass Co., Michigan. William GRUBB and Elizabeth MCILLVAIN had the following children:
D. GRUBB, Mariah: Mariah GRUBB42 was born in Oct 1806 in Loudon Co., Virginia.43 She moved with her parents to Logan County, Ohio in 1813 or 1814. She died on Nov 15 1887 in Brownsville, Calvin Twp, Cass County, Michigan. She lived from in Cass Co., Michigan. She was member of the Disciple church.43 She had earlier been connected with the Liberty Baptist Church, but transferred her membership early on and was followed in that action by her husband. She was buried in Reames & Norton Cemetery, Cemetery St., Cass Co., Michigan.

They moved to Cass County with their family of six children in 1837 and settled near Brownsville in Calvin Twp, where Mr. Hull had located land two years earlier. Isaac was one of the original trustees of the 1st Baptist Church, which was founded on December 7, 1843. Six of Mariah's children --she may have had more after moving to Cass County -- had died at the time of her death. Isaac HULL was born about 1807. He died on Dec 19 1873 in Cass Co., Michigan. He lived from in Cass Co., Michigan. Mariah GRUBB and Isaac HULL had the following children:
E. GRUBB, Mary: Mary GRUBB was born on Mar 20 1811 in Virginia.44 Obituary in Cass Co., MI paper gives place as Logan Co., OH, but the 1880 census of Lake City, IA gives place as Virginia, which is consistent with evidence that the Grubbs didn't migrate to Ohio until 1813. She was buried in 1881 in Lake City Cemetery, Jackson Twp, Calhoun Co., Iowa; (orig addn blk 2, lot 11). She died on Apr 20 1881 in Lake City, Calhoun Co., Iowa. She appeared on the census.
SCOTT, Greenlee: Mary GRUBB was married to Greenlee SCOTT on Aug 30 1827 in Bellefountaine, Logan Co., Ohio.45,46,44,47 They were married by Haynes Parker. The Matthews history of Cass County (p. 380) says that Greenlee and Mary, along with one child, left Logan County on October 16, 1830 with William and Elizabeth (McIllvain) Grubb (Mary's brother and sister-in-law) and their two children, "all drawn by two yoke of oxen attached to one wagon, into which was also packed all their worldly possessions, which were conspicuous only by reason of their meagerness." "This journey occupied until November 2, at which time the house of Andrew Grubb, who had preceded them the spring before, was reached. . . . " The 1840 census for Jefferson Twp shows five children, all consistent with presumptive birth dates of Mariah, Andrew, David, James and Hiram. The 1850 census, however, suggests that all of the Scott children were born in Michigan. It is possible that an earlier child, born in Ohio, died before 1850. (Their obituary says they had 12 children, eight of whom were alive in 1881.) In the early 1850s they moved to Iowa, first settling in the southwestern part of the state. In the fall of 1856 Greenlee, Mary, James B., Hiram, and Lucinda and a second daughter (Jessina?), arrived in Calhoun County, Iowa In the late fall of that year they bought the property of Levi D. Tharp, who moved on to Marion County. During the following fall, Tharp fell ill on an elk hunting expedition about 35 miles north of Lake City. He was brought by wagon to the Scott's home. "Dr. McBride was sent for from Jefferson, but all was too late for death took place soon after. In the 1860 census, the family is the first-listed in the Calhoun Twp, Calhoon Co., Iowa listings. Greenlee is 54, a farmer of $480 real value and $300 personal value who cannot read or write. Mary is 50 and also is recorded as unable to read or write. By the 1870 census, James and his wife, as well as Lucinda (22) remain at home. In 1880 they are alone in Lake City.
Greenlee SCOTT was born in 1806 in Ohio.48,44 Parents are not known, but 1880 census says Greenlee was born in Ohio, his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Scotland. Whereas obituary specifies location of Greenlee's birth was Logan County, this seems questionable since there is no evidence of a plausible set of Scott parents being resident in the county that early and the obituary got Mary's birth place completely wrong (Logan Co., rather than Virginia).. He died on Apr 21 1881 in Lake City, Calhoun Co., Iowa. He owned 1865 to 1881 in Lake City, Calhoun Co., Iowa. The Scotts bought, in section five of Calhoun Twp, the SE qtr. of the SW qtr., and the S half of the NE qtr of the SW qtr. (60 acres), for $450. The Scotts also, or subsequently, owned lots 5 and 6 in block 28 of Lake City, on the SW corner of Monroe St. and Woodlawn Ave., property that was sold to R. E. Moseley five months after the Scotts died. He was buried in Lake City Cemetery, Jackson Twp, Calhoun Co., Iowa; (orig addn blk 2, lot 11).49 Location: original addition block 2, lot no. 11 Mary GRUBB and Greenlee SCOTT had the following children:
F. GRUBB, Frances (Fanny): Frances (Fanny) GRUBB was born on Jan 21 1816 in Ohio.54 (date calculated from cemetery records) He (or she) died on Jan 27 1881. He (or she) was buried in Reames & Norton Cemetery, Cemetery St., Cass Co., Michigan. (11th row)

V. THARP, Abner: Abner THARP was born on Apr 18 1787 in Virginia. (Dorothy Tharp gives date of birth as the 18th of April and the year as 1884. The evidence from the tombstone supports the 18th as the day, but 1887 as the year.) He died on Aug 7 1869. He was buried in Reames & Norton Cemetery, Cemetery St., Cass Co., Michigan.
BOUSMAN, Sarah: Abner THARP was married to Sarah BOUSMAN on Sep 1 1810 in Champaign Co., Ohio.56,57,58 (Coltrain provides location of marriage.) They went to Ohio and then, in October of 1828, on to Cass Co, Michigan. Abner received word from his brother-in-law, John Reed, as to the "beauties and productiveness" of Cass County, Michigan, inducing him and Nathan Norton to come to better their fortunes. Along with Norton's family and those of Moses and William Reams, they became the first settlers in Jefferson Township of Cass County, building cabins that were "constructed of unhewed logs, ranged one above the other, with notches in the corners into which they interlocked, thus forming a solid wall on three sides, the front being open, and across which was hung a quilt in lieu of boards and a door. The earth formed the only floor of which the cabins could boast, while the roof was constructed of poles, over which was piled sods and earth, through the center of which was left an opening for the smoke to ascend." The following spring the family moved to Calvin Township, but in 1830 moved back to Jefferson Township, first in section 27 and then in section 23. "After a time" he sold out, returned to Ohio and then to Illinois before returning to settle in Brownsville, where he remained until his death. It was perhaps not Illinois, but Iowa, for Abner and Sarah show up in the Calhoun Co. census , in 1855 when both were 65. Sarah BOUSMAN was born on Aug 8 1792 in Northwest Territory.58 "in fort at North of the Ohio River before the organization of the Territorial Government of Ohio. She died on Feb 5 1874. C. THARP, Levi Dixon: Levi Dixon THARP was born about 1819 in Logan County, Ohio. He died in 1857 in Lake City, Calhoun Co., Iowa.
GRUBB, Mary A. : Levi Dixon THARP was married to Mary A. GRUBB on Apr 8 1848 in Cass Co., Michigan.60,61 Levi, apparently without Mary, moved to Iowa in the fall of 1852 and two years later became one of the pioneers of Calhoun county. With varied experience and the hardships and privations incident of that time, farming on a small scale, for his means were but moderate, hunting, trapping and fishing at leisure time like other pioneers for amusement as well as profit, he lived a man among men until late in the fall of 1856 . . . when he moved to Marion County. From here in the fall of 1857 in company with several others, among whom was a young man named Wm. Stevenson, he came up past Calhoun county and on to the Boyer river on an elk hunting expedition. Here after a short time he was taken sick and there being no means of caring for him nearer than Lake City or of securing medical attention from nearer than Jefferson, the only thing that seemed possible to be done was to load him, sick as he was, into a wagon and bring him to Lake City, Wm. Stevenson as driver of the team, after a hard days journey of 30 or 40 miles over trackless prairie with the sick man lying in the bottom of the wagon, arrived at Greenlee Scott's near Lake City late in the evening. Here of course he received every attention and care that friendship could give, Dr. McBride was sent for from Jefferson, but all was too late for death took place soon after.
Levi D. Tharp was a man of powerful physical frame and constitution and was morally a man without reproach. Mr. Tharp stands recorded in history as the man who cast the first ballot and the first man that died in Calhoun county. Mary A. GRUBB was born in 1828 in Ohio. Levi Dixon THARP and Mary A. GRUBB had the following children:
