USGS Information showing approximate Location of "Pendroy Cemetery" near Otley, Iowa.

1966 letter from Fanny (Pendroy) Peters, of Towner, ND.

Author Note: I have printed below a copy of a letter written  from Towner, North Dakota, to my aunt in Monroe Iowa, dated August 30, 1966. Towner is  near the  old pioneer town of Pendroy, North Dakota in McHenry County North Dakota,  founded by the Pendroys that migrated there.

Here is the complete letter, which was hand written by Mrs. Fannie (Pendroy) Peters.:

Gentleman,

Would you please send me information you have in your records of Eli Pendroy and Jacob Pendroy whose remains were moved from Summit Twp. Marion Co SW 1/4 Sec. 16 R77 T19?

I have birth and death dates but not places of birth and am very anxious to find where Eli was born. If you know any Pendroy's left in Monroe I would appreciate name of one.

Thank-you for your time I am using. My family came from Monroe and Otley and started the Pendroy Colony in N. D. in 1882 where this part of N. D. was unsettled. I have the Baldwin history to the revolution but am trying to trace the Pendroy line - without much success.

(Note: that Fanny Peters seemed to be aware of, or accepted as a fact, that relocation(s) were done from what is known locally as the "Pendroy Cemetery",which may explain why the burials and stones are not there today, in the old Pendroy family plot.

It appears this newly (just recently learned by me)  found USGS Survey location places the approximate location of the "Pendroy Cemetery" in a different area of Summit Township by Otley, Iowa  than previous attempts to pinpoint it. At this time, the  USGS location shown below, (with Latitude & longitude coordinates), has not been investigated to see if any stones remain, or if the cemetery actually still exists. (June 16, 2009).
